Description / Other

Louie is a  5 year old male Chihuahua possible Bulldog mix. Louie is such a sweet boy. He is a protector of his family and loyal. When a crash of thunder strikes, Louie has been known to throw himself across the chest of his family to protect. While he can be bossy around smaller dogs, he really just wants to play and be treated equally. There is a part of Louie that would like to be King of the Hill.  (He’s almost 18-pounds and not so easily scooped up in one hand!) Louie loves his food. He is learning to slow down and appreciate his meals, including an occasional in between meal of green beans or broccoli.  Louie appreciates having a routine. He truly seems to be able to tell time. Once a routine is established, he is right there to remind you that it’s meal time, play time, snack time, or time to go to bed. He will give a bark at 7 pm on the dot for his "snack."  (And if it doesn't happen, he will give a little grace, then bark again - until mission accomplished.) Louie loves attention - a scratch behind his ears and on his chest, a full body massage, being combed and brushed, and he especially loves to be held and sung to, being the lap dog that he is. He shows his appreciation by snuggling closer and sweetly “moaning along.” or he will give kisses. One of the highlights of the month for Louie is bath day. He gets a full ear and teeth check plus nail clipping. He gets so excited to see the groomer as well as any visitors who drop by. Louie is gentle and a little shy around young children. When there are many visitors around, he tends to sit back and observe.  Louie has been in a loving supportive home throughout his life. His current owner no longer has  the mobility or play space to tend to Louie as he deserves. Louie needs a home that will give him the attention he needs with a dog parent or caregiver who is able to give him the place and opportunity to exercise and play throughout the week. He is independent and accustomed to being on his own during the workday but would benefit from a midday visitor or ideally someone who works from home some days throughout the week. He is paper trained and typically barks to let you know when he will be visiting the puppy pad. He sleeps through the night at the foot of the bed or on his own bed. By morning, he waits and watches closely to see who is awake and when it's time to start the day. (If you pick up the phone to check morning messages, he will tell you it's time to get up and get going!) He's a great boy, the right person will be lucky to have him.
